Weapons
Overview
In Chrono Odyssey, each of the six launch Classes, Swordsman, Ranger, Sorcerer, Paladin, Berserker, and Assassin, has access to three class-locked weapons. Adventurers may equip two of these at a time and swap between them instantly in combat using the Q key, layering time-manipulation skills from the Chronotector on top of traditional action gameplay.[1][2][3]
Each weapon comes with its own unique:
- Skill tree with distinct abilities
- Special ability activated by right-click
- Weapon mastery level that must be leveled independently from class level
- Set of eight abilities (four active at any time)
Weapon Switching System
The weapon switching system is a core mechanic that enables dynamic combat:[4][5]
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Real-time swaps | Press Q to change weapons instantly with no animation lock |
Eight-skill loadout | Four active skills per weapon; total of 8 skills available during combat |
Cooldown persistence | Skill cooldowns persist through weapon swaps |
Role flexibility | Combine defensive and offensive weapons to cover Tank/Healer/DPS roles |
Combat fluidity | Can swap mid-attack; current attack finishes before swap occurs |
Resources
Class | Resource | Generation | Notable Traits |
---|---|---|---|
Swordsman / Berserker | Rage | Builds on hit; decays out of combat | Enables burst "spender" skills |
Ranger / Assassin | Vigor | Starts full; spent by skills | No passive decay, supports kiting |
Sorcerer / Paladin | Mana | Passive regen | Governs both healing and DPS spells |
Weapon Mechanics
Skill System
Each weapon features:[3]
- 8 total abilities per weapon in the skill tree
- 4 active ability slots that can be equipped at once
- Left lane (red highlight) - typically offensive abilities
- Right lane (blue highlight) - typically defensive/utility abilities
- Center lane - buffs, passives, and enhancements to basic attacks
- Synergy skills - Unlockable skills with two option choices
Weapon Mastery
Weapon mastery operates independently from character level:[4]
- Must physically use a weapon to level it up
- Cannot level weapon mastery by using other weapons
- Each weapon has its own progression tree
- Higher mastery unlocks more powerful abilities
- Points are earned by levelling the weapon separately from the character
Weapon Attributes
Attribute | Description |
---|---|
Base Damage | Raw hit power before modifiers |
Attack Speed | Determines animation length and resource-gain rate |
Scaling Stat | Primary character attribute that boosts damage/healing |
Skill Modifiers | Random perks such as +Crit Rate or +Time-Magic Amp |
Combat Power (CP) | Overall power rating affected by all weapon stats |
Enhancement Level | +0 to +15 upgrade tier applied at the Blacksmith |
Enhancement & Crafting
The enhancement system allows players to upgrade weapons without RNG-based destruction:[6][8][9]
Upgrade System
- Visit a town Blacksmith to upgrade weapons from +0 to +15
- Required materials:
- Gold
- Monster drops
- Enhancement Stones
- Success rates:
- 100% success for upgrades up to +3–5
- Higher tiers introduce failure chance
- No item breakage or downgrade on failure (only material loss)
- Equipment Score increases with each upgrade
Enchanting
Enchanting adds or rerolls skill modifiers on purple-rarity and above gear:
- Adds affixes like:
- Critical hit chance
- Cooldown reduction
- Elemental damage
- PvP-specific stats
- Becomes crucial for late-game optimization
- Can manually reroll affixes with specific materials
Crafting vs Drops
Crafted gear was generally more powerful than gear found from combat during the early game of the beta. [4] This balance may change in the full release.
Future Systems
Planned post-beta additions include:[6]
- Legendary recipes and set bonuses
- Time-Fused gear
- Crafting boosts during events
- Time-infused enchants
Acquisition
Weapons can be obtained through multiple sources:[6][5]

Expedition Dungeons | Early-game weapon drops |
Dungeon/Raid bosses | Enhanced variants and rare skins |
World bosses | Timed spawn bosses drop high-tier weapons |

Tactical Applications
Combat Strategies
- Hybrid Rotations
- Open at range with bow/crossbow, then swap to melee when enemies close distance[5]
- Resource Management
- Use resource-generating weapons (Greatsword) to build up, then swap to spender weapons (Dual Blades)[3]
- Cooldown Optimization
- Rotate between weapons to maximize ability uptime since cooldowns persist through swaps
- Role-Fluid Builds
- Paladin Mace+Halberd enables off-heals and DPS in small-group content without rerolling
Class-Specific Combinations
Class | Popular Combinations | Strategy |
---|---|---|
Swordsman | Dual Blades + Sword & Shield | Tank with damage options and threat control |
Swordsman | Greatsword + Dual Blades | Pure DPS with rage generation and spending |
Ranger | Bow + Crossbow | Maximum range flexibility |
Ranger | Crossbow + Rapier | Kiting with emergency melee option |
Berserker | Chain Blades + Twin Axes | Self-sustain with burst damage |
Berserker | Battle Axe + Twin Axes | Tank/DPS hybrid with whirlwind synergies |
Paladin | Mace + Halberd | Flexible support/DPS for small groups |
Armor Interaction
Weapon effectiveness is influenced by armor weight:[4]
- Light Armor - Increases damage output, reduces defense
- Medium Armor - Balanced stats
- Heavy Armor - Increases defense, reduces damage
- No weight-based movement penalties (dodge type is class-based, not armor-based)
Beta Limitations
During the Closed Beta Test (June 20-26, 2025), only three classes will be available:[3]
- Swordsman
- Ranger
- Berserker
The remaining classes (Paladin, Sorcerer, Assassin) will be available at full launch.
Tips for New Players
- Each class receives full weapon kit at character creation for testing[13]
- Weapon mastery levels are separate from character levels - use weapons to level them
- Try all weapon combinations during beta - respec is available
- Headshots with ranged weapons deal bonus damage[11]
- Practice weapon swapping combos for fluid combat
- Monitor stamina usage - each weapon has different stamina costs
- Consider armor weight when planning builds
- Resource management differs by class - learn your resource mechanics
